Home Bound

sunny

Good morning,

I am not sure how I feel this morning, a part of me is so sad to be leaving the place I have called home the past month, and the other smaller part cannot wait to be back with my loved ones.
Being in Cambodia I have seen things I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would and got to have a new experience almost everyday i was here.
Riding elephants, seeing the skulls at the memorial and all the classes i got to take, along with everything else i did here has really changed me and open my eyes to another way of living.
The beautiful sites, foods, people and culture is something i will NEVER forget and bring back with me when i return to Canada.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog over the past few weeks and appreciate everyone for taking the time to read it.
My flight is at 11 AM and I will be back in Toronto around 6 AM tomorrow morning, wish me luck.

Thank you guys!

Day on the water

sunny

Hello everyone,

This trip is starting to seem like it has an animal theme. Today I went to the town of Kratie to go Irrawaddy dolphin spotting.
I have heard of people going to swim with dolphins before but even just being able to see them in real life was amazing. They came up so close to the boat you could almost reach out and touch them. They seemed extremely happy to see us and being on the Mekong River was extremely relaxing.

Hope you all had a good day,

Stone and Woodcarving School

overcast

Good afternoon,

Today I traveled by bus to Siem Reap, a city where there is a reputable Stone and Woodcarving School.

I got to see how they cut stone and wood for reproductions of the ancient Khmer temple carvings. It was a very cool experience and it helped the local economy, so it was definitely worth the long bus ride.

I'm going to get ready then go out for dinner with some other people staying in my hotel who are here on a photography trip for a magazine in England.

Talk to you guys later,

Cooking class

semi-overcast

Hi everyone,

After a very interesting change in weather yesterday, the weather is back to its beautiful normal self.

Today I went to my cooking class offered by a local restaurant just down the street from my hotel.

It was a lot harder than I thought it would be, but i think i picked up a couple great recipes I can’t wait to share with my family back home in Canada.

For example we made a curry with about 9 different spices, a little too spicy for my taste but it was still really tasty in smaller bites.
However we made an absolutely delicious dessert using a local fruit - durian, I had never even heard of it before but the dessert was mouth watering and differently a keeper.

I am going for another lesson later in the week and tomorrow I am taking a bus to the stone and wood carving school to see how they do that!

Have a good night everyone,

hummm...

storm

Good morning everyone,

The weather has taken a surprising turn for the worst. I was supposed to go to a Stone and Wood carving school today but I think I will wait for another day and just prepare my ingredients for my cooking class tomorrow.

Talk to you guys soon.
